Everyday gaming is taking on more and more. More money, more people, more responsibility. The professional gaming circuits of RTS and Fighting games are
making a steady rise in area and revenue. This trend doesn't seem to be letting up
as you see new titles coming out eg. Blizzard's Heart of the Swarm and Namco's Tekken Tag Tournament 2.Then there is the casual gaming scene with handhelds and other devices that geared to the non 'hardcore' gamer. The handheld industry is in the 10's of billions of dollars. And in the center of this. And in the center of all this are the players. We are the ones pressing the buttons.
As gaming get recognized it perception and it will change. So will the players along with it. There are few now that have tasted the glory that is being paid to play. I sure its hard work but this phenomenon is just starting. Then there is the employees that make up the industry. GamePro went under but the gaming news industry is not dead. Streamer's are now caring news of games along with play through content. There are whole industries of entertainment and competition feeding off the gaming community. The saying now seems to be "You gotta get paid to play".
Crendor commentating a game, this type of video is called a "Let's Play"
I sure this is not the first time something went from being a happy pass time to a serious multi-million industry. And Im sure that there are other jobs based on their technical industries eg. cars. So what makes gamers different. Im not sure that there is enough room in this form to describe the diversity of the gamer culture. I do know its the community and the people of the community that make it special. Gaming is a dance between the artist/creator and the observer/user. Without these people the industry doesn't exist so let's make sure that they are catered to. This culture has gotten big but its up to the community to push it further. Its just the creators that can make it happen, this culture also requires the players. Thank you for playing.
